Proverbs 28.13
He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will receive compassion.
We are not sinless. It is a sad reality that we all give in to temptations when our faith wavers. When we forget our God and all that He has done for us. During such moments, instead of remembering the sacrifice He made by sending His son, our vision narrows, and our own desires overshadow what God desires for us. However, the absolute beauty of our God lies in the fact that if we follow what Proverbs 28.13 asks of us, confessing our sins instead of hiding them, forsaking our destructive path rather than continuing down it, we will receive compassion. As tempting as it is to hide what we have done, whether from shame, guilt, or even our own pride, this will only lead to further problems.
When we do hide our sins we will not prosper. Prosper in what? In overcoming our sins; in shining our light; in enduring to the end. If we hide what we have done and never recognize it, we will not work through the problem; but instead, continue failing in the same manner. When we confess our failures to our Father, we acknowledge them ourselves and can begin taking the steps to forsaking, or overcoming, those sins which hold us down. Beginning that path will build our hearts to be after Gods; and, help us to change our ways and receive the compassion from our patient and long suffering God.
