2 Peter 2:7,8
7 and if He rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men
8 (for by what he saw and heard that righteous man, while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds),
How often do you think about the hum your refrigerator makes? Or the ticking of the clock on your wall? If we don’t consciously pay attention, the world around us gradually fades from our awareness. What does this say about Lot? He held the law of God in his mind so that everyday when sin became present, he was tormented by it. It begs to clarify that this tormenting is not a hatred of the people. Quite the opposite in fact. This internal torment is from loving our God and everyone around us that we hope and pray that they may come to know God. This love for everyone does not excuse the vexation that sinful actions takes on us. Often we can become numb to all the chaos around us because it is easier to become numb than to be vexed. Yet this is not what we are called for. We are called to be that light, to show a better way and to help all those around us. To give glory to our God and to show Him in our lives. God does not take pleasure in the sins that we commit, so neither should we. We need to train ourselves to be as Lot, to be bothered by the sins and motivated to help those trapped in them. Knowing that God will bring all through these trials if we lean upon Him and not forget His law.
