Haggai 1:4-7
4 “Is it time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses while this house lies waste?”
5 So now, thus says Yahweh of hosts, “Set your heart to consider your ways!
6 “You have sown much, but bring in little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who earns, earns wages to put into a bag with holes.”
7 Thus says Yahweh of hosts, “Set your heart to consider your ways!
Haggai’s message was to the Jews who’ve come back from Babylon after being held captive due to their sins. They were supposed to build a temple for God when they returned, but they got distracted. They prioritized their own comforts and wants rather than looking at what they were supposed to do for God. Now we are not tasked as they were to build a physical temple, but we are tasked to build a spiritual one. The church is the temple of God in this age and we are to be working for it. Encouraging those who are in the body of Christ, while working to help others to join. We must ask ourselves what God asked the Jews, “consider your ways.” What are our motives in this life? Are we working for God or working at our own desires? If not for God we may find ourselves as they did; working but all in vain.
