Matthew 11.28-30
28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.
30 “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

One of the many roles that our Lord Jesus has is that of a big brother. He is older, wiser, and has the wisdom to navigate life’s challenges. What advice does he give here? To adopt the humble and gentle mindset that he has. Be humble in our obedience to God and gentle in how we act to everyone else. How Jesus lived always showed this. He told us he is not doing his will but Gods (John 6.38) and that he came as a servant (Mark 10.45). It is this mindset that will give us rest and lift the load we so often carry. When we humble ourselves to God, we can ask Him for help and cast our cares to Him; while a gentle attitude will help us in our relationships. But let’s not forget the way that Jesus gave us rest: through the forgiveness of our sins. The burdens we carry from the past mistakes we have made can be erased and a new relationship with God can be nurtured. This rest can be found if we truly do learn from Jesus and live as he lived. Jesus’ life wouldn’t be described as easy by most, but his burden is light when held to the alternative. The weight of being a part of the world’s mindset is so much more draining compared to the freedom that comes from a mindset humble and gentle. Lets live as Jesus lived and serve our God with this heart.
