Colossians 3.9,10
Do not lie to one another, since you put off the old man with its evil practices, and have put on the new man who is being renewed to a full knowledge according to the image of the One who created him.
Our old selves have died at the time of baptism. When we enter the water, we are buried and then symbolically resurrected as a new creation. One modeled after Jesus who lived perfectly as God desires. This new man should be dead to the past self, yet it can be very difficult to live that out. It’s easy to fall back into old habits and desires; that is why we have to renew our conviction of the new man continually. Not renewed to what we think may be right, but to the standard of God. This renewal takes many forms in our lives. Prayer, reading Gods word, meditating on God, fellowship with believers, listening to Godly music, etc., can all be ways to help keep ourselves strengthened. This life can be difficult, but if we remember to always renew ourselves back to God, we can endure!
