Jeremiah 2:13
“For My people have done two evils: They have forsaken Me, The fountain of living waters, To hew for themselves cisterns, Broken cisterns That can hold no water.
How long can you go without water? How long would you want to go without water? God makes a very powerful comparison when referring to Himself as the ‘living waters’. Not only is water essential for our survival and something that we want to have, but He is specifically the living waters, not just any water. The sin of Israel was their turning to other gods. Turning to other wells that do not have true water, leaving them in a state of death. How easy is it for us to do the same thing? To start following after our own desires and thoughts rather than what God wants? We must hold onto God even stronger than we’d hold onto a canister of water in the desert. He is our life and the source of survival.
