John 6.26,27
26 Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
27 “Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, set His seal.”
At that moment, Jesus stood before a large crowd that had followed him after he miraculously fed them with five loaves of bread and two fish. The crowd was working for perishable bread while following him, and Jesus was pointing that out. Do we ever do this? Have we worked for bread that perishes while overlooking the true bread that may be right in front of us? How easy is it to get into a rhythm of life: wake up, eat food, go to work, eat again, sleep? Yet we have to always keep the big picture in mind: God and His kingdom. Our work in life is to live as God’s son Jesus lived, and to share the good news of God and His kingdom. We still work for bread that perishes at this time, but that should never be our focus. Let’s work for the food of eternal life!
