because they have forsaken Me, and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the sons of Ammon; and they have not walked in My ways to do what is right in My sight and to keep My statutes and My judgments, as his father David did.
This is the moment in history when Jeroboam was told that he would be given 10 tribes from Solomon. This was due to Israel’s sins and turning to other gods. Think about all the cultures and false gods that got incorporated into Israel that God listed. Sidonians, Moab, and Ammon, nations that God specifically told them not to incorporate their gods into their lives while entering into the land. The culture around them they didn’t reject but accepted, resulting in a devastating rejection from the one true living God. Can we do this today? Can the culture around us leave us following false gods and ideas? Sometimes the false god is ourselves. We have to be on the watch that we don’t start accepting that which is against the true God and what He has told us. That way we can keep what is right in His eyes and not our own.
