Matthew 1:1
The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham:
Do we always think about what we are reading? Have we become so accustomed to language and phrases in the scriptures that we don’t fully process what they are truly telling us? Why would Matthew begin telling us about the greatest man who ever lived with these words? How does David and Abraham play a role in Jesus life? To be named directly in this manner shows their importance. Hopefully we can start questioning our understanding and why the scriptures say what it says. Rather than reading a thinking, “Yeah Matthew just starts with a genealogy for some reason.” Let’s think and read and grow together!
