And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.”
— Matthew 26:39
Moments before Jesus’ great sacrifice, he prayed to God. In his prayer, he acknowledged his desires to not go through the crucifixion yet that it was Gods will, not his, that would be done. As our greatest example on how to live, Jesus shows us a mindset that will allow us to overcome any trial. If we keep Gods will as the focus and not our own, we will overcome to the end. How can we go on sinning if we are thinking about Gods will? We haven’t suffered to the point of death as Christ did, so we can continue to push on despite the temptation. If we understand that God wants all of us in His kingdom and has given everything to us, we just have to overcome ourselves and choose Him, then we can choose His will over ours. Let’s have Jesus’ example of obedience to our God and Father be the mold we put ourselves in and say daily “not my will but yours.”
