June 9th, 2025: Genesis 24.13,14

Behold, I am standing by the spring of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water; now may it be that the young woman to whom I say, ‘Please let down your jar so that I may drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I will give water to your camels to drink also’—may she be the one whom You have decided for Your servant Isaac; and by this I will know that You have shown lovingkindness to my master.”
— Genesis 24:13-14

Abraham had sent his servant to find a wife for his son Isaac amongst his family. This sending for a wife was no small feat and was to determine the next matriarch in the blessed line of Abraham. Sarah had just died and now the promised son, Isaac, (who would continue on the blessings from God) would need a spouse who would come to that call as Sarah had. So what were the requirements that this trusted servant held as a showing of who would be this next woman? A heart of service and compassion for strangers. Was it a showing to him by God, yes; but, it was also a showing of the moral attributes of the type of woman he was looking for. Rebekah was the woman to meet this calling and gave to the servant and his camels water. This test of proof for the servant showed the heart this matriarch to be had. It is the same heart and desire that God wants in all His children. The second greatest command is to love our neighbors as ourselves which we do by showing love and compassion to all we meet with a heart of service. Hopefully we can pass the same test that may be being put on us as we go through this life.
