June 23rd, 2025: Isaiah 1.5

Where will you be stricken again,
As you continue in your rebellion?
The whole head is sick,
And the whole heart is faint.
— Isaiah 1:5

Isaiah was sent to Judah at a time of rebellion and rejection of God. God had not waited dormant as Judah performed these injustices and sins. God had inflicted Judah with disease, wars, and various troubles in their lives to bring them back to God. All of Israel was inflicted to make them think about their actions, turn to God and ask for help and repentance. The infliction was so extensive that God speaks saying “where will you be stricken again?” There wasn’t a place God hadn’t afflicted them. Have we considered if God is speaking the same to us in our lives? Are there times where we have sickness or troubles that are overwhelming and feeling all encompassing? What God asked of Israel is no different for us: examine yourselves and repent from your wickedness. This isn’t to say every bad thing in our life is a judgement from God (Job teaches us that); but, we should always self examine to make sure we aren’t turning from God. This will help our confidence in God that we are choosing Him and living by His word and judgment.
